Game Review: Golden Axe – The Revenge of Death Adder

There is a famous game series called Golden Axe. Most players associate it with the Sega console because there were several parts released there. They were a good arcade gameplay and medieval battles, where you choose one hero from the party and send him to the fulfillment of glorious feats. But such a popular game could not stay on a single console, it was cramped there, so she got out on the arcade machines.

In-depth narrative and thought-out to the smallest detail of the storyline of the game should not be expected. Of course not, it’s 1992! However, at least we have a story that continues the story of the Golden Axe saga. But it has almost nothing to do with the Sega games.

Our other game reviews:

The Story of Golden Axe – The Revenge of Death Adder

Many years have passed since Death Adder, a tyrant and despot, met his fate at the hands of heroes no less powerful than himself. And rightly so, such tyranny could only last long and with impunity in the real world, but not in a fairy tale, where there are powerful warriors, mages and centaurs.

But the villain did not sleep, even from the world of the dead they got him and forced him to continue his atrocities. It worked out extremely well for him, because the divine weapon, the Golden Axe, was once again at his disposal.

A new group of heroes gathers its strength to defeat the enemy. You only have to choose who you’d rather play as: the mighty warrior Sternblade, the seductive centauress Dora, the giant Goaf or the worm Trix.

Gameplay

Gameplay

You can note the serious roots going back to the Beat’em up genre. But still, there are some differences. For example, there aren’t many enemies on the screen at a time, the action is a little slower than in other games, but it gives you the time you need to maneuver to get around the enemy and take a better position.

The game has such a style that if you try to mindlessly chop the air, you’ll find yourself in an awkward and difficult situation in no time. Virtually every enemy has a separate approach to him, thanks to which you can deal with him without getting damaged by counterattacks.

Attacks

The attacks for the heroes resemble those of the first part: normal attacks

The attacks for the heroes resemble those of the first part: normal attacks, jumping attacks, running attacks and magic attacks. Magic gives the game a certain amount of charm. It is the use of magic at the right moments can save the lives of your characters and make it to the healer or the end of the level. Each character has his own set of elemental magic, of which there are several types.

The cost and power of magic increases depending on the number of magic bottles collected. You can steal or rather knock out bottles of magic from little gnomes, which you will meet often while passing the levels. Most of magic has an attacking function, but Trix, for example, can plant an apple tree that will drop valuable fruit, and the characters can be healed from their wounds.

In the first game, you could saddle special animals that your enemies ride. It’s not so much a vehicle as it is an attacking force. In this game, there are new types that are bringing confusion to the enemy camp.

Once you have completed the game, you are given a rating, depending on how you have performed and your skills in battle. This is also affected by which of the paths you’ve chosen at forks along the way. It’s hard to go it alone, but you can invite one or sometimes three friends who will definitely help you cope with all the enemies.

Graphics

The graphics has improved significantly compared to the original. The locations are also diverse. The sound in the game, although not of high quality, but still maintains the cheerful fighting spirit and the spirit of adventure.
